Vodafone coming up with their app store called VStore, with apps and similar market share for the developers compared to that of other app stores. As the previous sentence indirectly answer’s the question that it was not a smart move. Especially for a market like India and many other countries, where people literally run after the numbers/news i.e. if iPhone apps or Android apps make it to the top news of any tech blog, everyone starts downloading those apps only. So the first few months for the Vstore are going to be seriously tough and going to determine its destiny with respect to Indian App Market. The Indian App Market is still said to be in its ‘nascent’ state so if they were looking forward to get a good head start, it could have been a lot better if they could have provided better market share to the developers so that they could have attracted more developers and could have got app more in number and better in quality.
So let me tell you what is the unique and maybe the only good thing about this VStore, its basically targeting every single GPRS enabled phone so that covers a phones which are java enabled phones(which include android apps). With this good aspect, there is a possibility that it might good.
But we can only get the correct answers after few months only. So lets see how its going do!
To access the VStore from your GPRS enabled phones you have to goto - http://live.vodafone.in
For developers, you have to goto - http://developer.vodafone.com/
Its still in beta testing but the beta thing is only there to answer the question we asked in the title of this post.
